The Sacraments - Baptism
![]() Baptism Preparation
The Sacrament of Baptism is the special and sacred moment when our Christian Community welcomes an individual into new life in Christ. We, the members of Nativity of Our Savior, wish to embrace and support each new member and promise him our loving care as we welcome him. For this reason, there are guidelines and expectations as we plan for the baptism of each one who is received into the Church.
Infant/Child Baptism
Preparation for infant/child baptism may be planned either before birth or as soon as it is practical. Please phone Jackie Gentry at the parish office for information and an information interview. You will be asked to be/become registered members of the parish, to attend church regularly, to attend a one-session baptismal preparation class, to learn the requirements for persons who you will seek to be Godparents until after this discussion. After all the above details are complete, a date for the Baptism can be discussed. Baptisms are offered at Nativity on the first and third Sunday after the 11:00 AM Mass or during any Mass as long as the liturgical schedule is open.
Adult Baptism/Full Communion in the Church (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults- RCIA)
Adult who have never been baptized, have been baptized Catholic but had no further instruction or sacraments, or have been Baptized in another Christian denomination may become members of the Catholic Church through a process called the RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS/RCIA. Because this is a faith conversion process an investment of time over at least a year is required. This process includes times of reflection on the Sunday Scriptures, inquiry, catechesis, enlightenment or more intense spiritual preparation, and follow-up reflection on Easter mysteries, evangelism and ministry. After completing the process, the participants receive what is called "The Sacraments of Initiation", that is, Baptism (if not received previously), Eucharist and Confirmation. This is frequently completed on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil Service.
Adults who are interested in becoming Catholic should contact the church office for further information.
