Dennis Matusiak
Dennis Matusiak was born in Gary, Indiana on July 23, 1941. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1961 and attended St. Joseph's College in East Chicago. Dennis enlisted in the Navy and served as Navigator aboard the air craft carrier USS Saratoga.
He married Charlotte Mary Lenzo on January 14, 1967. They have three children, Matthew and Sarah, who attended St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, and Phillip, who attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. They have five grandchildren.
Dennis retired from Inland Steel in 2001, where he worked as a Journeyman Machinist for 30 years. He is now working part-time in the Industrial Section of the Sears Hardware Store in Portage.
At Nativity, Dennis has been active in the Knights of Columbus where he has held many offices including Grand Knight. As a 4th degree Knight, he is a member of the Father Sorin Assembly and has served as Faithful Navigator from 1999 to 2001. He has served as an Usher since joining the Parish in 1968. He is an active member of the parish and shares his skills and talents with many organizations. You could often find him in the dunk tank we used to have at the Festival and he helps with the Lenten Fish Frys or on various church projects.
Dennis' love of Country is evident though his work with Veteran Organizations like the American Legion, Forty and Eight and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also a member of the National and State Affiliates of the USS Saratoga Association and the US Navy Memorial Association.
Dennis' hobbies include biking and hiking. And, when time permits you often find him camping or taking a relaxing cruise.
