Kemberly Markham

I am the new principal of Nativity of Our Savior School.  I am delighted to have made my way back to the region after living in Southeastern Indiana for the past 15 years.  I grew up in Michigan City, Indiana, where I attended  a mix of Catholic and public schools.  I graduated from Rogers High School, which is now Michigan City High School, in 1988, and pursued an English and Reading Secondary Education Bachelor's degree and teaching license from Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana.

Upon receiving my license, I took a position in St. Leon, Indiana teaching language arts and computers at Sunman-Dearborn Middle School.  The school provided education for large rural area and served about 1000 students in grades 5-8.  Eventually the population outgrew the school and it was transformed into a school for about 700 7th and 8th grade students.  I took a mix of college computer courses from IUPUI in order to fulfill my computer teaching duties.

I went back to school to earn a Master's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Indianapolis in 1998.  Along with my Master's degree work, I began teaching a writing course and kept up my language arts and computer duties.  I also began working on my administrative license requirements through Indiana Wesleyan University, which were complete in 2004.  I spent a year as an administrative intern at Sunman-Dearborn, but felt that I wanted to pursue Catholic education.

I am married with three children, who attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Greensburg, Indiana.  My husband and I were involved with, and impressed by, our children's education in many ways, which is what prompted me to pursue Catholic education as a career.  As a family, we participate in various Nativity parish events and feel very "at home" here.  We are glad to be in Portage!
